Haemorhous mexicanus

I frequently see House Finches at my bird feeder so I am able to observe them and collect a few photos if I'm lucky. At least they don't come and go quite as quickly as the Chickadees! I made a few sketches to help me with my next painting.

    1. Ah oui. Some are brighter than others!

And for some reason, my photo looks more colorful than my drawing. :-/

    1. That's true!
I read that the red of this bird comes from pigments in the food during molt. Of course, the more food, the redder! The females prefer the reddest birds - perhaps realizing that they would be good feeders during nesting?

    1. Merci! J'aime voir ces oiseaux à la mangeoire près de ma fenêtre de la cuisine!
