I have been thinking about trying gouache on black paper and painting an owl in my next painting so today I worked on this small painting, just experimenting. I don't know if I want to paint this way. I have a dream to be more free with my work but maybe it's rediculous to fight against one's natural tendencies! Anyway, I suppose realism presents its own opportunites for freedom in some ways.
I like seeing the gouache paint on dark paper because it really stands out!

Probably because black paper could not be a credible background itself ...
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm not sure it is good to use black paper for a very realistic work of nature. But I wonder if a night scene in moonlight could work.
