Pipevine Swallowtails (Battus philenor)

This is a gouache painting that I recently finished, painted from some photographs that I took while on a summer vacation in the western part of Virginia. These colorful butterflies are found in North and Central America.

  1. Anne, as with all your gouache paintings, I love the colors. The play of light on the wings is lovely!

    1. Thanks carol!
I'm enjoying playing with gouache colors.

Oops, I see that I missed something on one of the butterfly's wings. Back to work!

  3. Hey there! It was so nice to meet you yesterday.
I'll know today if I'm happy with my linocut when I finish the final colors. It seems I never know for sure until the very end!

Hope to see you again soon at d'Art! I'll introduce you to Ken Wright. I think you'd enjoy talking to him.

I enjoy making these paintings. A nice break from printmaking. You know how that can be!
    Have a great day!
